Jang Kim's teaching career
 
Jang Hyun Kim has been working as assistant professor, instructor, and teaching assistant in the Department of Speech of University of Hawai'i, Department of Communication of SUNY-Buffalo, and Yonsei University. He also served as a guest lecturer in many prestigious schools and government institutions including Korean National Pension Foundation, Ewha Womens Univ., Hanyang Univ., and SUNY-Buffalo. His teaching philosophy is to treat his audiences as his customers, not students. "Customer satisfaction 1st." His such approach has been proven by positive course evaluations by his "customers."

Spring 2009 (Hawai'i): Group Decision Making and Leadership (SP 352) and Group Decision Making (SP 752) - Organizational Communication 

 

Fall 2008 (Hawai'i): Conflict Management (SP 455) and Political Communication (SP 454) SP 455 covers conflict communication, conflict communication, and negotiation. SP 454 focuses on political communication theories and 2008 Presidential election on Nov 4.

 

Summer II 2008 (Hawai'i): Conflict Management (SP 455) and Group Decision-Making and Leadership  (SP 352) SP 455 covers interpersonal and inter/intraorganizational conflict. SP 352 is in regard to group dynamics and leadership 

 

Spring 2008 (Hawai'i): Introduction to Speech Communication Theories (SP 301) and Group Decision-Making and Leadership  (SP 352) For SP 352 course, Jang Kim focuses on the theoretical basis of leadership and its application to real life situations. Also, the course deals with organizational/group communication theories.

 

Fall 2007 (Hawai'i): Political Communication (SP 454) and Introduction to Speech Communication Theories (SP 301) Jang Kim is teaching the theories related to political phenomena and practical skills of political/policy campaigns. The comm theory classes deal with a short but comprehensive overview of extant literature.

 

Spring 2007 (Buffalo): Survey of Mass Communication (COM 240) Jang Kim is teaching the technological traits, social impact, and history of mass media including books, Internet, newspaper, magazine, television, radio, and so on. Also mass media theories and advertisements/public relations are discussed in this course.

  

Fall 2006 (Buffalo)Political Communication (COM 450) Jang Kim's long interest is the relationship between new media technology and its influence on political/social/democratic processes. His class includes most major theories with regard to propaganda, advertising, campaign, mass media, public opinion formulation, and political cyberspace. Teaching evaluation of this class is 4.7/5.0 on average.

 

Fall 2005, Spring 2006, Summer 2006 (Buffalo): Introduction to the Internet (COM 125) Jang Kim taught this basic course with a focus on technology itself plus its social, political, and economic implication on society. Jang Kim introduced new Internet technology with lots of audio-visual materials.  

 

 * Other invited lectures: Jang Kim's invited guest lecturing was conducted at SUNY-Buffalo, Ewha womens univ., Hanyang Univ., Korean National Pension Foundation, and so on. His lecture topics were: public campaign, Internet online business, New media technology, International Communication, Internet politics, and advanced methodology.

Fall 2004 & Spring 2005 (Buffalo): Principle of Communication (COM 101) Jang Kim assisted Director Brian Reynolds by being an adjunct lecturer and a manager-in-chief of grading. The class encompassed most major theories with regard to communication science, mass communication, advertising and PR, and journalism.

 

Fall 1997 to Spring 2000 (Yonsei)Theories of New Media, Pusuasion theories and PR, Social science methods Jang Kim assisted prof. Young-seok Kim interms of lecture material and grading process. Especially, Jang Kim initiated Internet online lecture by himself as early as 1998.
